Sask. farmers welcome record coverage from Sask Crop Insurance Corporation

Saskatchewan farm leaders are supporting record Crop Insurance coverage levels in 2021.

Coverage rises 22 percent to a record $273 per acre while premiums are up 16 percent.

SARM president Ray Orb welcomes enhanced coverage levels.

He says better coverage serves farmers well.

Orb also supports a new pilot insurance program for commercial vegetable growers and improved coverage for forages and chickpeas.

Carl Potts with Saskatchewan Pulse Growers also welcomes changes to chickpea calculations and says producers should see increases in coverage levels.

The average crop insurance premium rises $1.19 to $8.59 cents per acre.
