New owners acquire Kindersley pulse processing terminal

Purely Canada Foods has been in business for five years with a 93,000 tonne terminal (fifth largest in Canada) located at Lajord, about 20 minutes southeast of Regina.

Purely Canada purchased the Kindersley plant from a receiver that oversaw the sale of assets formerly held by Canpulse Foods.

“We’ve got 8 to 10 staff, depending on how busy it is during the peak times of the season,” said Tyler West, chief executive officer of Purely Canada. “We have an extensive draw area . . . . all the way out into Alberta and some of the prime (lentil) growing regions (in Saskatchewan).”

Red and green lentils, peas, canary seed and mustard are the primary crops that are cleaned and potentially bagged for domestic and export sales.

Last October, Purely Canada announced a merger with Above Food—a plant protein food business. It uses pulse proteins to make meat and dairy substitutes.
