Coronach residents without water until Friday

Those getting their water supply from the town of Coronach, about two hours south of Regina near the U-S border, are being told not to use their water.

This after town employees discovered a break-in at the water treatment plant with the possibility of the current water supply being contaminated occurring.

Town administrator Catherine McKay-Wilson says it is a matter that is being taken seriously and as a result the request has been made for the 650 people in the town to not use the water until told otherwise.

“Do not use the tap water, use bottled water. ” McKay-Wilson said. “Do not treat the water yourself as we don’t know what could have happened.  We want people to take this very seriously especially when we are battling a pandemic.  It will be a long week, but we will get through it.”

McKay-Wilson says work has been made to get water tanks into the town for people to use.  She adds potable water is also available in nearby Willow Bunch and Rockglen.

While it is not known if the water supply was contaminated with something, McKay-Wilson says the RCMP are investigating and there is enough concern to do what is being done at this time.

If all goes well, it is hoped fresh water is available by Friday.
