Final shot clinches win for Saskatchewan over Gushue and Team Canada

A big last shot win for Matt Dunstone and Saskatchewan over Team Canada at the Brier Monday night.

A draw in the 10th end gave Saskatchewan the 6-5 win over the defending champions.

Dunstone said after allowing a steal in the 9th, they felt they were in a perfect position to win the game.

“We were right where we wanted to be, we gave them a steal for a reason and we knew if we did that we’d have a shot at it,” Dunstone said. “It just kind of simplifies things in that 10th end and with that five rock rule and being two up it could have got a little messy, so we give them that steal in nine and the odds of us winning the game we felt were very good,” Dunstone added.

The win improves Saskatchewan to 3-1, but it was also what Dunstone called “a bit of a revenge victory” after Gushue’s team knocked them out of last year’s Brier in the semi final.

“It was huge, you know they’re all big, but this one especially obviously, and it was a little bit of revenge from last year, so it feels good to get this one,” Dunstone told reporters after the game.

Saskatchewan moves on and will face a 3-2 Quebec team Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (Sask. time).
