A 31-year-old inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre is back in custody after a brief escape on Wednesday afternoon.

The ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety says Michael Riley Obey, who was in remand custody for weapons, assault and other charges, escaped around 2:30 while on a medical escort.  He was apprehended about two hours later

During the escape, two correctional officers received serious but non life-threatening injuries. They are being treated for their injuries.

A review into the circumstances of the escape to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future will be held.
