RCMP in Saskatchewan have charged a man with second-degree murder after the death of one-year-old Lorenzo Cote back in November of 2020.
23-year-old Waylon Hilliard Severight of the Cote First Nation, Sask. was arrested without incident by members of the Yorkton RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit South on March 12 on Cote First Nation. Police say Severight was known to Lorenzo.
Severight appeared in provincial court on Monday morning in Yorkton; his next court appearance is the morning of April 8.
It was November 21, 2020 when police were called just after 1:00 a.m. to a report of an infant requiring urgent medical care inside a home located on the 200 block of Northern Avenue in Canora. Upon arrival, officers found the infant and took over resuscitation efforts from family on the scene until EMS arrived.
Paramedics continued resuscitation efforts when they arrived at the home, but eventually pronounced the boy dead at the scene.
RCMP say this investigation is ongoing.
