Ottawa outlines plan for temporary foreign workers for farms and agri-food industries

The federal government has announced a comprehensive plan to better protect foreign workers for Canadian food security.

The special rules are for those working in agriculture and agri-food industries.

Part of the solution includes a deferral for certain foreign workers in agriculture from the requirement to stay in government authorized accomodation on arrival.

Temporary foreign workers will be able to travel directly to their place of quarantine after getting a covid-19 test at the airport provided they travel by private transportation.

Those who need to use public transportation will be required to stay in a government authorized accomodation and await results of their covid-19 test.

Workers will also be provided with supports on arrival and during their hotel stay.
