Blood donations suspended in Regina due to COVID-19 cases

Canadian Blood Services in Regina has suspended all blood donations due to COVID-19 cases in the building.

The company says they were notified of two people who tested positive for the virus at its Broad Street location. They haven’t revealed if the cases were found in staff or donors, citing confidentiality.

In a statement, they say they have decided to suspend whole blood collections in Regina until March 22nd, but apheresis plasma and platelet collections will continue.

“The safety of our donors, staff, and volunteers is a priority,” read the statement. “Canadian Blood Services has robust safety measures in place at collection events across the country, including mandatory masks, additional PPE, enhanced cleaning, wellness checkpoints, physical distancing to safeguard our teams, donors, and volunteers.”

The organization says all regular collection activities will resume on March 23rd.

People who had appointments booked, are being encouraged to rebook appointments on the GiveBlood app, visiting blood.ca, or calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283)
