Comments about jobs have government wondering what NDP is trying to accomplish

The opposition NDP is upset over the fact that they aren’t in the house debating issues, and that a third-quarter update has not yet been provided.

Standing outside of the Saskatchewan Legislature on Wednesday, finance critic Trent Wotherspoon said the Premier is trying to sell the province a false bill of goods and it is time to start answering some questions.

“It’s become clear that the Premier doesn’t want to answer questions about his lack of a plan for jobs or his handling of the pandemic.” Wotherspoon said, “He doesn’t want to be accountable to the people of Saskatchewan.”

Jobs critic Aleana Young added that Scott Moe needs to tell the 23,000 people who lost their jobs last year how he will get them back to work and that he is out of touch with no plan.

Those comments had Government House leader Jeremy Harrison fighting back.  He says it is claims like this that show how two-faced the NDP are.

“On the one hand. you have the NDP demanding lockdowns which is what they have been doing for months. “Harrison said.  “Doing that would put tens of thousands of people out of work and shutter some businesses forever, but in the same breath they demand a hiring boom.  They need to pick a lane and the reason why they have zero credibility and the reason why they were handed a resounding defeat in the last election is because they have none.  We have a plan and it is one that has led to one of the best economic performances in Canada during the pandemic.

Harrison also scoffs at the NDP’s complaints about a late start to the spring sitting.  He says you can pin the blame on that to the NDP when they were serving as government.

“This is another matter where the NDP needs to pick a lane.  Not that long ago, they were demanding the house shut down, but now they are demanding we go back to work.” Harrison said. “We are following the rules that were put in place when the NDP was in government as to when the house would sit.  We will be going in on April 6 which is precisely as the rules and procedures of the Legislative Aassembly mandate. I find it strange that they are complaining about rules that they put in place when they were government.   We will be sitting for the required amount of days as the rules mandated by the previous New Democrat government and we will be presenting a budget that will focus on the priorities of the public in Saskatchewan making sure we have the strongest economic recovery in the country.”
