Regina baseball fans have spent many years enjoying summer nights at Currie Field watching the Regina Red Sox.
They will soon be hopefully moving from Currie Field to the downtown area.
On Tuesday. the Red Sox released concept plans for a 3500-seat state of the art facility that will sit on the vacant railyards on Dewdney Avenue just off Albert Street. Cost of the three-phased approach is between $12 and $20 million dollars.
The facility would also serve other teams and leagues and be a venue for spring and summer festivals, concerts, flea markets and movie nights,
The team is entering a Memorandum of Understanding with Living Sky Sports and Entertainment. They will help facilitate the team’s financial involvement with stadium construction costs.
Red Sox President Gary Brotzel says a stadium is long overdue, and we hope the City of Regina see the merits of our vision and plan so we can work together to make this a reality. We feel over 100,000 people a year will travel to the warehouse district between May and August which will be great for the vibrancy and economic activity of the entire downtown core.
