The Regina Pats named Ryker Evans as their player of the year Monday.
The 19-year-old from Calgary finished in a tie with Connor Bedard for the team lead in points with 28 and is the first defencemen to win the award since Colby Williams in 2014-15.
It is the fourth year-end award for Evans from the Pats. He also took home the top defenceman, most popular player and top scorer award which he split with Bedard.
After not hearing his name called in last year’s NHL draft, it is believed he will be selected in this year’s draft as his play in the WHL East bubble drew the attention of several scouts.
