Moose Jaw Mayor Fraser Tolmie is seeking a nomination for the federal Conservative party in the Moose Jaw — Lake Centre — Lanigan riding.

Tolmie will continue to serve as the Mayor of Moose Jaw, but says he will step down if he wins the nomination.

Tolmie says he believes western Canadians feel left out, and he has the experience to help them feel included.

“I’ve eliminated bureaucracy in our city council and our city, where we’ve attracted over a billion dollars worth of investment,” Tolmie said. “(I’ve) been able to cut red tape, and I think that’s important to the people of this riding.

“Further, I’ve changed the culture within city hall, and also on council and in the community.”

Tolmie says he feels this is his time to serve federally.

“I’ve put in a number of years — not only in municipal politics, but also within the military — I understand what service is about, I understand the sacrifice is required to serve,” Tolmie said. “I feel that I’m a proven candidate with a track record that would reflect well for this riding.”

Former MP Brad Trost, Kathryn Pollack and Clark Puckett have all announced their intention to seek the CPC nomination.

The riding became opened when current MP Tom Lukiwski announced he would not seek re-election last month.
