CN Rail has outlined plans to spend 120 million dollars in Saskatchewan this year to improve rail shipments for grain and other products.
CN Director of Sales and Marketing, David Przednowek says highlights include replacing 48 miles of rail, 155,000 ties and rebuilding 31 road crossings.
“So, CN’s been on record pace for grain movement out of Saskatchewan right since the beginning of the 2020-21 crop year,” said Przednowek. “Between August and the end of May, CN shipped over 14.8 million metric tonnes of grains and processed grain products from Saskatchewan via carload. Over 17 percent higher than the previous record pace of 2019-2020, and over 24 percent higher than the 3-year average.”
Przednowek says this year’s 120 million dollar expenditure in Saskatchewan is part of a 3 billion dollar plan to expand rail capacity to move more grain, potash and other products to market.
