The Saskatchewan Health Authority will be reviewing its pharmacy procurement process in all SHA operated long-term care homes.

This follows a recommendation from Ombudsman Saskatchewan in the 2019 Annual Report, where the SHA made changes to the program in order to improve consistency. The policy relates to medication support, product delivery, oversight of quality and after-hours access to pharmacy services.

Seniors and Rural and Remote Health Minister Everett Hindley says the province heard concerns from Saskatchewan residents in this process, adding pharmacies play a key role in providing important health services, especially in rural Saskatchewan.

There are 111 SHA owned long-term care homes throughout Saskatchewan that have these agreements in place. The existing arrangements will remain in place until the review is complete.
