Sask. Agriculture Minister has no plans to raise Agristability compensation rate

Agriculture Minister David Marit says there are no plans at this time to move the compensation rate for agristability from 70 to 80 percent.

APAS has called on the province to raise the compensation rate to 80 percent, citing growing concern about crops.

Marit says the biggest farm group request he had was to remove the reference margin limit to agristability, which was done earlier this year.

He says farm ministers had asked Ottawa to maintain its share of the rise in the reference margin but refused unless the provinces followed suit.

Marit has also expressed concern about the cost of raising the compensation rate for agristability.

Marit adds there are other avenues on the private side for farmers to raise their compensation level from 70 to 80 percent or higher.
