Tornado warnings have ended for parts of southern Saskatchewan, but watches and severe thunderstorm warnings are still active for multiple communities.
The tornado warnings were announced by Environment Canada at around 2:30 p.m. when a possible tornado was spotted just south of Minton.
Municipalities under the tornado watch and thunderstorm warnings include Assiniboia, Gravelbourg, Coronach, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Cypress Hills and Val Marie. A tornado watch has also been placed for the Swift Current, Kyle, Lucky Lake areas.
Environment Canada meteorologists say the severe thunderstorms are capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. Conditions are also favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes.
There are still heat warnings in effect for northern Saskatchewan, as day-time highs 29°C or hotter and humidex values in the mid 30s are expected for the region.
