Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Craig Dickenson has seen a lot in his days on the sidelines, but he admits he has never seen the amount of achilles injuries that his team has had so far this season, a season that hasn’t even officially started.
On Friday, defensive lineman Tim Williams suffered a torn achilles while running a normal drill at about 60 percent speed in what Dickenson says was a glorified walkthrough.
“It’s just wild, isn’t it?”. Dickenson told reporters Monday afternoon. “I’ve never seen that many Achilles injuries ever and so to lose another one is really, really tough. Hopefully, knock on wood, that’s the last one, but you never know. It’s a violent game and guys are playing hard and being explosive and sometimes those things happen. We certainly hope we’ve seen the last of those.”
Dickenson also talked about the conditioning, or lack of it, his team had during Saturday’s scrimmage that the coaches shortened in the second half.
The team did some running after practice, but Dickenson said that wasn’t served as punishment for what happened Saturday. He says they just have to get in shape and do it in a safe way.
