Kraken add fifth Saskatchewan-born player to team

The Seattle Kraken might soon be Saskatchewan’s team.

On Wednesday, the team announced they have signed Wilcox’s Jaden Schwartz to a five-year contract which will pay him $5.5 million per season.

The 29-year-old  had eight goals and 13 assists in 40 games for the Blues last season, with 21 marking his lowest point total since his first full NHL season in 2012-13. He had spent a decade with St. Louis registering 385 points in 560 games.  The highlight of his time in St. Louis was being a part of the Stanley Cup team in 2019.

The acquistion of Schwartz means people in Saskatchewan may want to refer to the Kraken as the Seaskatchewan Kraken as he joins Jordan Eberle, Cole Fleury, Hayden Fleury and Kole Lind as players from our province on their roster.

While Schwartz is moving on, Ryan Getzlaf is not.  There had been speculation Getzlaf would leave the Anaheim Ducks after 17 years with some reports suggesting he could land in either Montreal, Edmonton or Dallas.  The 36-year-old has signed a new one year deal with the Ducks.
