Sask. Stock Growers outline farm drought survival plan

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association has sent a drought survival plan to the federal and provincial governments.

Stock Growers President Kelcy Elford says producers need immediate government action to ensure cattle producers have sufficient feed and water during the drought.

Elford wants improved support through AgriRecovery, Agristability and long-term low interest loans for drought-stricken farmers.

Other support proposals include funding for temporary fencing to enable grazing of unharvestable crops and more support for water projects.

The Stock Growers are also asking government to talk to the railways to find affordable transportation for moving cattle feed to areas where needed.

The Stock Growers also want a five year tax deferral on sale of livestock.
