Saskatchewan harvest is progressing very quickly with 20 percent of the crop in the bin.

Thats up from seven percent last week and well ahead of the average of four percent.

The latest provincial crop report sdays some farmers have indicated yields are worse than expected while those who had timely rains are seeing yields closer to average.

Combining ranges from 34 percent in the southwest to seven percent in the northwest.

Some farmers in the southern grainbelt are more than half finished harvesting.

The most rain this past week was in the Lipton area, with 20 millimeters followed by Meacham with 11 millimeters.

The rain won’t improve yields but will help pasture conditions.

Cropland topsoil moisture declined this week with 4 percent adequate, 29 percent short and 67 percent very short.

The main causes of crop loss this past week was due to wind, drought stress, gophers and insects like grasshoppers and flea beetles.

Farmers are being reminded to ensure firefighting supplies are nearby to stop any combine or field fires from getting out of control.
