The City of Regina’s bylaw that will ban the use of plastic checkout bags comes into effect February 1.
The ban applies to plastic bags provided to customers at checkouts.
In a release the City says that other in-store plastic bags used for items such as bulk foods, fruits, vegetables are still permitted.
The City says it will be reaching out to retail businesses across Regina, and will be providing them with more in-depth clarification.
A recent survey conducted by the City showed that 77 percent of respondents indicated that the reduction of single-use plastic items, such as grocery bags, was an important issued to them.
