Alberta Premier Jason Kenney appoints new Health Minister as anger towards pandemic’s handling boils over

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney replaced his health minister as hospitals in the province fill with COVID-19 patients, and he faces growing anger from within his own party over his handling of the pandemic.

Jason Copping was sworn in as Health Minister on Tuesday afternoon, taking over from Tyler Shandro.

Shandro will take over from as Alberta’s Minister of Labour and Immigration.

Alberta’s hospitals are currently facing a major capacity overload, with 222 COVID-19 patients in ICUs.

Non-urgent surgeries have been postponed, and front-line workers are preparing triage protocols that will decide which patients are the most in need of the highest level of care.
