Drew Englot and Zach Stringer scored on the power-play, but that would be all the offense the Regina Pats would muster in a 5-2 loss to the ICE in Winnipeg Wednesday night.
The Pats were outshot 41-18, although they did win that department 7-3 in the 3rd period.
Coach Dave Struch was not pleased with the performance from his club when speaking on the CKRM postgame show.
“We got beat really bad by a good hockey team, there really is no other way to put it,” Struch said. “When you don’t play the way you’re supposed to play, you get chasing the game, which we did and when you get chasing like that the first thing that happens is your mind goes, and that happened to us,” he added.
Struch acknowledged the effort of goaltender Matthew Kieper, saying the 17-year-old is motivated to show he can be a starter in the WHL.
“I think just with his work ethic and wanting that number one job and wanting to look like a starter in the Western Hockey League is a big motivator, and he’s done that for us here early in the season,” Struch said.
The Pats (2-1-0-0) will be in Moose Jaw Friday night.
