Pats alumni dot NHL opening-week rosters

The NHL season got underway Tuesday night.  With the puck having dropped on the 2021-22 season, fans of the Regina Pats can see several players who at one time played for the organization at the Brandt Centre,

In league-opening rosters produced Tuesday, there are 8 former Pats in the NHL.   They are

  • Sam Steel, Josh Mahura (Anaheim Ducks)
  • Adam Brooks (Montreal Canadiens)
  • Libor Hajek, Dryden Hunt (New York Rangers)
  • Jordan Eberle (Seattle Kraken)
  • Chandler Stephenson (Vegas Golden Knights)
  • Kyle Burroughs (Vancouver Canucks)

Another former Pat is also behind an NHL bench.  That is Barry Trotz of the New York Islanders,

Other players with ties to the area include

  • Ryan Getzlaf (Regina) –Anaheim Ducks
  • Ethan Bear (Ochapowace First Nation) — Carolina Hurricanes
  • Ryan Murray (White City) –Colorado Avalanche
  • Cole Sillinger (Regina) –Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Tanner Jeannot (Estevan) –Nashville Predators
  • Haydn Fleury (Carlyle) — Seattle Kraken
  • Kole Lind (Shaunavon) — Seattle Kraken

In all, 133 WHL alumni are on the 32 NHL teams with the Kelowna Rockets having the most at 16.  The Vegas Golden Knights have the most WHL alumni on their team with 10.
