Regina Police arrest Manitoba man in connection to drugs incident

Police in Regina have made an arrest after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs inside of the vehicle.

On Monday night — just before 10:00 PM — two patrol officers observed a Chevrolet Impala traveling north on Broad Street from Saskatchewan Drive. The vehicle was estimated to be traveling between 90-100 km/h, passing vehicles in the narrow underpass just north of Saskatchewan Drive.

Police followed the suspect vehicle and deployed emergency equipment. The vehicle came to a stop on Broad Street and 7th Avenue. The driver became extremely uncooperative when police told him he was under arrest for dangerous driving. It’s alleged the suspect assaulted both officers as they took him into custody.

After a search of the vehicle, police found ammunition, empty ammunition casings, cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription drugs (tranquilizers), an expandable baton, and thousands of dollars in Canadian currency.

24-year-old Tyler Thorvaldson of Carman, Manitoba faces the following charges:

  • resist arrest
  • assault of a peace officer (X2)
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking (X3)
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • operate conveyance dangerous to public.

Thorvaldson appeared in court Tuesday morning.
