Rams head to Saskatoon for matchup with Huskies Saturday afternoon

The U of R Rams will be in Saskatoon Saturday afternoon taking on the U of S Huskies.

The Rams, who are 1-2 on the season, are coming off a heartbreaking 31-30 overtime loss at home to UBC last week, a game they lead 23-0 at one point.

Interim Coach Mark McConkey, said while it’s something they want to forget, it also has to be a learning experience.

“Yeah, I mean at the end of the day we just let that one slip away,” he said. “When you’re up 23-0 you just have to be able to execute and finish, we didn’t do that on offence and late in the game we didn’t do it on defense, but we need to learn from it and now we’re excited to face the Huskies,” McConkey said.

The Rams are 11-28 all time against the Huskies, losing the last matchup 44-9 in 2019, their last win against them came in September of 2017.

However McConkey knows Canada West is much closer than the standings make it appear.

“Every game has been tight,” he said. “We’ve lost by four, we’ve lost by one and won by 13, it’s Canada West football and that’s what our guys and our staff are learning, you need to play four quarters, you can;t get away with just playing one,” McConkey said.
