A 47-year-old woman is facing charges after a man was first assaulted and then the victim of a hit and run early Saturday morning.

Police say they were sent to the 1300 block of Victoria Avenue, between Toronto and Ottawa Street, just after 2 a.m after getting a report of an assault that was happening.

A witness told police a man was being assaulted by a number of people. The suspects fled on foot leaving the victim on the street. A vehicle than hit the man and continued heading into the downtown area. He was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious.

The Regina Police Service is investigating the assault of an 33 year-old male, who also became the victim of a hit and run collision in the same event. A 47 year-old female has been charged in connection with the collision, but the assault is still under investigation.

Nicole Henry will appear in court to answer to the charges next month.

Police say the investigation into the assault continues.
