In memory of the Saskatchewan Public Service Employees who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, the annual Service of Remembrance took place this morning at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

Scott Moe, along with members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans, and other dignitaries joined together for the service.

The Premier says we owe a large amount of gratitude for those who have served for our country. “My hope is that we know what we have in this great nation in Canada and that we understand our freedoms we enjoy today have been hard, won by the brave men and women at an extraordinary cost.”

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the battle of Hong Kong and the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the mission in Afghanistan something that is important to look back Moe says. “Engagements that took place far away from our home. Engagements that were part of a larger struggle that transcends time and place and today we remember all of those who took part in this battle, in Hong Kong and if Afghanistan.”

At the conclusion of the service, Moe laid a wreath at the Saskatchewan War Memorial.

The memorial lists the names of Saskatchewan’s fallen soldiers from the First and Second World War, Korean War, peacetime and peacekeeping operations, and the Afghanistan mission.
