Thunder players dominate PFC awards and all-star teams

When you are 8-0, you would expect a team to get many individual awards and that is the case for the Regina Thunder as they get ready to take on the Winnipeg Rifles in a Prairie Football Conference game Sunday afternoon at Leibel Field.

The PFC has released its individual award winners and all-star teams.  Taking individual awards are

  • Coach of the Year – Scott MacAulay – Regina Thunder (8-0).  He led the Thunder to their first ever undefeated regular season and now home field advantage throughout the Prairie Conference playoffs.
  • Most Valuable Player – Rylan Sokul – Regina Thunder (receiver) – 38 receptions for 621 yards and 6 touchdowns (Sokul also named outstanding receiver)
  • Outstanding Quarterback – Carter Shewchuk – Regina Thunder – 104 of 164 (63%), 1630 yards, 14 touchdowns, 114.6 passer efficiency rating
  • Outstanding Special Teams Player – Eric Maximuik (kicker) – Regina Thunder – 20 of 29 (69%) field goals, 43 punts averaging 39.8 yards, 33 kick-offs averaging 56.6 yards and 3 singles
  • Rookie of the Year – Reece McCormick (defensive lineman) – Regina Thunder – 16 tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 3 sacks

Players being named all-stars were

OL –Riley Schick, Logan Hubick, Connor Klassen

REC- Rylan Sokul, Isaac Foord

QB – Carter Shewchuk

K- Eric Maximuik

DL- Reece McCormick

LB- Ryan Mills

DB- Justin McKerracher
