The Queen City saw itself named one of the top cities in Canada, placing just outside the top ten.

That is according to a study from the School of Public Policy Publication, that rated Regina 12th.

The study looked at six variables to calculate a city’s ‘vitality score.’ The variables were population increase, net migration, household income, increase in household income, the employment rate of adults between the ages of 25 to 64, and low income.

Regina and District Chamber of Commerce CEO John Hopkins, said that the ranking is not surprising.

“I think the reality that we’ve faced over the last numbers of years is there are opportunities here for people,” he said. “This is a great place to raise a family. We have great amenities for families, and if you are looking for a place to live in Canada and have a family to raise, it doesn’t get much better than Regina.”

Hopkins said that one of the keys to the city’s success as of late has been the number of good jobs.

“We continue to hear about the investment that is going to occur in and around our city. These are good-paying jobs that will help family people, as well as single people, maintain a mortgage and buy food, and do whatever it is they want to do,” he said. “That’s the kind of jobs we are seeing being created in the area here, and that’s what people are looking for because we wouldn’t exactly have the best climate for people.”

Regina wasn’t the only Saskatchewan city ranked high, as Saskatoon came in at 13th, with all smaller cities like Yorkton, Swift Current, Weyburn, Estevan, and Lloydminster all scoring high ‘vitality scores.’
