An increase in funding is coming to the Saskatchewan Income Support (SIS) program.

The Ministry of Social Services will once again provide direct payments of shelter benefits available for rent, utilities and security deposits on behalf of high needs SIS clients who are at risk of homelessness due to complex challenges.

The ministry also announced an additional $113,000 in 2021-22 to expand money management and trusteeship services provided through community-based organizations that are currently contracted, which will allow them to expand up to 25 percent.

According to a news release issued by the provincial government, the SIS program was introduced in 2019 to support people by meeting their basic needs while they become more self-sufficient and independent to the best of their abilities.
