The Regina Pats dropped their second straight game Friday night as they lost a 6-3 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The loss drops the Pats’ record to 6-9-0, while the Oil Kings improve to 11-3-3 to remain tied for first in the central division.
The Pats opened the scoring at the 9:38 mark of the first period with a cross-ice pass from Zane Rowan that hit an Edmonton defender and entered the net, giving the Pats a 1-0 lead.
Edmonton responded with five straight goals, starting with a goal from Dylan Guenther at the 10:57 mark of the first. Jacob Boucher added a second goal in the period for the Oil Kings at the 15:59 mark.
The Oil Kings then got a goal from Logan Dowhaniuk on the powerplay to increase the lead to two at the 8:46 mark of the second.
Josh Williams then added a shorthanded goal for Edmonton at the 15:16 mark of the second. Jalen Luypen joined in the scoring parade for the Oil Kings at the 18:46 mark of the second period.
However, early in the third period, Connor Bedard scored his seventh of the season, cutting the Oil Kings lead to three goals.
After another goal from Jacob Boucher to restore the Oil Kings’ four-goal lead, Bedard scored his second of the game at the 6:58 mark of the third period. The score would remain 6-3.
Drew Sim made 28 saves on 34 shots in the loss, while Sebastian Cossa made 26 saves on 29 shots.
The Pats are back at the Brandt Centre Saturday night when they host the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Puck drop is at 7:00. It will be the last home game for the club until December as they embark on their annual Agribition road trip.
