Some good news for restaurants that have liquor permits from the provincial government.

Those restaurants can now sell alcohol with takeout or delivery orders.

Liquor and Gaming Minister Jim Reiter says they have been looking at the rules and regulations that were in place and came to a decision that this would help an industry which has been battered by the pandemic.

“We took a look at the rules and regulations over the last few months and we think we have reached a reasonable compromise.” Reiter said. “We know that industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and this is a tool we can use to help them.”

Food must be a part of the order as it can not be alcohol-only.  Restaurants will not be able to operate as full-scale liquor retailers.  They can not establish retail displays or have in-location shopping for takeout alcohol.

Reiter does not believe this will hurt the business of those who run liquor stores in Saskatchewan.

The move is one that restaurant owners and the opposition had been calling for over the last few months.
