Update – Environment Canada has now issued Blizzard Warnings for Regina, Moose Jaw and parts of west central and south western Sask. including Kindersley and Swift Current.

Weather conditions are deteriorating from west to east across much of Saskatchewan on Tuesday, as a strong winter storm moves through the prairies.

In the southern part of the province wind is the biggest concern, with gusts of 100 km/h or more expected in many communities, including Regina and Moose Jaw. Gusts could reach as high as 110 km/h in the southwest corner.

The strongest wind gusts are expected to occur between noon and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur, loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Environment Canada says the strong wind combined with snow could lead to reduced visibility across parts of southern and central Saskatchewan Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Once all is said and done, Regina and Moose Jaw are expecting to see about 10 cm’s of snow.

Further north where Winter Storm Warnings are in place, anywhere from 15 to 30 cm’s are expected.

Areas currently under a Winter Storm Warning, include the Battlefords, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Nipawin, Tisdale and Melfort.

Conditions are expected to improve from west to east Wednesday morning and into the afternoon hours.

The weather office is advising people to consider postponing non essential travel until conditions improve.
