Sask. farmers welcome this week’s precipitation but say more is needed

The president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers says this week’s snowstorm precipitation is welcome, but more will be needed.

Regina has some snowdrifts three feet thick, while other areas of the province like Assiniboia have only a thin cover of fresh snow.

Stock Growers president Kelcy Elford says the precipitation is welcome after a long hot dry summer.

Elford says many areas need four to five feet of snow this winter to replenish water supplies.

The Stock Growers have called on government to revamp and extend drought aid measures, such as extending the improved funding for water development beyond the March 31st deadline.

The Stock Growers have a 12 point plan which also calls for low interest loans and including power installation for water as eligible expenses.
