“Its a nine-team coin flip!” Dunstone says anyone can win the Olympic curling trials

What rinks will represent Canada in four-player curling at the Beijing Olympics will be determined over the next few days in Saskatoon as the Olympic curling trials begin with nine men’s and nine women’s rinks looking to represent Canada.

While none of the women’s rinks participating are from Saskatchewan, Matt Dunstone and his Regina rink will be looking to capture the title.

Dunstone says the field is the same one you would find at any other major event like a Brier so they aren’t facing any new challenges with the exception of what is on the line is a lot bigger than a Grand Slam title or a Canadian championship.

He says anyone can win, but the rink that does will have to be on the top of their game from the first rock of the first end.

“Whoever finds that momentum and whoever gets that confidence with themselves and the ice first will have a big advantage.” Dunstone said. “We are excited at the fact we have had a lot of success this year and we feel we haven’t played our best yet.  We hope to get on a roll and ride what we think will be a crowd that will be behind us.”

Dunstone faces Mike McEwen in Winnipeg in his first game.
