RPS. charge three women after dangerous driving incident turns into shoplifting investigation

Three women have been charged with theft under $5,000, after an investigation into a dangerous driving incident turned into an inquiry over a shoplifting accusation.

Regina Police say officers were sent to the area of Lewvan Drive and Parliament Avenue around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night, where they identified a suspect vehicle.

The woman inside the vehicle was told she was receiving a ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle and for driving with a suspended license.

During that time two women approached the vehicle with shopping carts full of items from a store nearby.

Employees were right behind them and informed police none of the items in the carts had been paid for.

The three women were then taken into custody.

Thirty-eight-year-old Charity Bird-Deegan, 35-year-old Kayla Severight and 29-year-old Leah Poitras have been jointly charged with theft under $5,000.

Severight was also charged with hit and run.

The three women are scheduled to appear in court January 27th.
