The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association welcomes more federal support for moving hay to the drought-stricken prairies.
Federal Agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau has promised an additional 3 million dollars to move hay from Eastern Canada to the prairies under the Canadian Federation of Agriculture HayWest program.
Stock Growers general manager Chad MacPherson says the additional funding is welcome.
He says it will be put to good use for producers needing to feed their livestock through the winter.
Ottawa has already approved one million dollars in support of the program, which has moved 150 shipments or 5.6 million pounds of hay for almost 17 thousand cattle.
