Sask Stock Growers launch annual beef drive for food banks

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers has launched its annual beef drive for food banks.

Stock Growers general manager Chad MacPherson says the goal is to surpass last year’s total by collecting over 10 thousand pounds of beef plus financial donations from members.

He says Cargill is returning as a beef drive sponsor to match cash donations dollar for dollar up to 5 thousand dollars.

MacPherson says the five previous beef drives have collected over 38 thousand pounds of ground beef worth over 180 thousand dollars.

He says food banks have a difficult time obtaining beef because of cost and storage.

There are 36 food banks across Saskatchewan.
