Christmas travellers will want to keep an eye on road conditions if doing any driving in the province this weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says snow and blowing snow will be an issue across central and southern Saskatchewan, starting Thursday night. “We’re going to see a few centimeters across the south but as the cold front sweeps through we’ll the see the winds really pick up.”

Winds could reach speeds of 60 km/h on Thursday night according to Lang.

Travelling conditions will improve later on Friday but Lang also noted that temperatures will drop into extreme cold . “Friday definitely looks like a better day for travelling because the wind will have simmer down and the snow will have stopped, but it will mark the arrival of the really cold air and we’re going to be in a really deep freeze for a long time.”

The overnight low is expected to dip to -18 tonight and -23 on Christmas Eve.
