Saskatchewan was hit with extreme cold weather in the second half of December. Despite the cold, it wasn’t record-breaking cold except for one day.

On December 28th Regina saw a record low temperature of -38.2, breaking a record that was set in 1884 the same year David Scott was elected as the City’s first mayor. That year the temperature hit -37.6.

Regina wasn’t the only place in Saskatchewan that saw record-breaking temperatures on December 28, as 15 other communities broke records.

• Last Mountain Lake: New record of –40.7 C (Old record of –37.0 C set in 1992).
• Leader: New record of –42.6 C (Old record of –37.2 C set in 1924).
• Lucky Lake: New record of –38.7 C (Old record of –36.3 C set in 1996).
• Maple Creek: New record of –40.6 C (Old record of –40.0 C set in 1917).
• Moose Jaw: New record of –37.6 C (Old record of –34.4 C set in 1924).
