The Canary seed Development Commission in Saskatchewan is launching a new website for consumers.

Commission chair Darren Yungman says the website is designed to provide nutritional information on newly developed de-hulled Canary seed.

He says Canary seed for human consumption is being called by its Spanish name, alpiste.

Yungman says Canary seed offers high protein, healthy oil and is non-gluten.

He says it can be incorporated in salads, soups and baking.

The waste portion of the de-hulled seed can be used as livestock feed.
