The coaches leading the Riders on both sides of the ball will be in Saskatchewan a little longer.
Defensive Co-ordinator Jason Shivers and Offensive Co-ordinator Jason Maas have signed one-year contract extensions through the 2023 season, the Riders announced today. They were among a flurry of front-office moves the club revealed Thursday.
Shivers enters his third CFL season in charge of the defence. It will be Maas’s second season leading the offense. The move brings their contracts in line with General Manager Jeremy O’Day and Head Coach Craig Dickenson, which also expired in 2023.
Assistant General Manager Paul Jones also signed an extension through 2023. This will be his fourth season in green. Kyle Carson has been promoted to Assistant General Manager. Carson joined the club in 2019 and has worked closely with Jones.
The team announced its coaching staff that will work under Craig Dickenson for 2022, and it features one new face.
Kelly Jeffrey joins the Riders as Running Backs coach. He was with the Elks in 2020 and the Argos previously. Jeffrey spent a decade coaching at Mount Allison, including eight years as head coach.
The rest of the staff announced Thursday:
Kent Maugeri, Special Teams Co-ordinator
Stephen Sorrells, OL Coach and Run Game Coordinator
Travis Moore, Wide Receivers
Deion Melvin, Linebackers
Ben Olson, Defensive Line
The club says it will be hiring a Defensive Backs coach at a later date.
