SARM pushes for moratorium on wild boar farming

Rural municipalities in Saskatchewan are calling on the SaskParty government to place a moratorium on wild boar farming.

SARM president Ray Orb says wild boars are an invasive species which have escaped to the wild in over 60 rural municipalities.

He says they are dangerous, destroy crops, and reproduce quickly.

Orb says wildlife regulations were amended in 2016 to allow hunting of wild boars year round but the numbers continue to spread.

Orb says resolutions calling for a moratorium on wild boar farming have been approved at several SARM meetings in recent years.
