Sask farm leaders welcome Sask Crop Insurance improvements in 2022

 

Saskatchewan farm leaders are welcoming this years rising coverage and premiums at Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation.

Coverage reaches a record 405 dollars per acre, a jump of 48 percent from last year while premiums increase 40 percent.

SARM president Ray Orb is pleased with recent enhancements to crop insurance, which he calls a useful tool for farmers.

The chair of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, Arnold Balicki and the president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers, Kelcy Elford also welcome the improvements, particularly to forage crop insurance.

Crop insurance paid out 2.4 billion dollars due to drought last year, including a record 50 million dollars in forage crop insurance.

There were 30 thousand claims, many due to drought.

The average has been 78 hundred claims in recent years.
