What’s in a name?

The Regina Exhibition Association is poised to announce it has a new title sponsor for the fair grounds.

The name “Evraz” which has adorned the sprawling site will come down, and a new one will go up in its place.

Evraz Steel is one of Regina’s largest private employers, and REAL says the naming contract with them  expired last year.

REAL says this name change has been in the works for months, and now is the time to make the announcement.

Evraz Steel is coming under fire somewhat, as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues.   A Russian business man is one of the company’s largest shareholders, and the company has been the primary supplier of pipe to the TMX pipeline project between Alberta, and the BC coast.

Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland noted yesterday, Evraz has already delivered all of the pipe needed to finish the project, well before the war began in Ukraine.

The name change announcement is planned for 10:00 this morning.
