Government of Sask not renewing emergency health order

The Government of Saskatchewan will not be renewing its emergency health order.

The order was initially put in place in September of last year during the Delta wave and was used so the government could redirect healthcare workers.

The emergency order was set to expire on Monday, and Premier Scott Moe said that the order has served its purpose and isn’t needed anymore.

“We were about 91 per cent capacity across the healthcare system. We are seeing a decline in absenteeism, and now is a time that we are able to move forward with more renewing the emergency order.”

Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili said it’s tough to tell if it is the right decision not to renew.

“They’ve reduced access to testing, the information that they are sharing with what’s going on with COVID-19 has been dratiscially reduced, it’s a government that isn’t sharing the full facts, so it’s very complicated to be able to say, this is what we should do right now.”

The emergency order will expire on Monday.
