This week’s COVID report from the provincial government is showing lower numbers in deaths and cases than the previous week’s report.

There were 1,013 new cases in the week between February 27 and March 5, 2022. There were 13 deaths in the province in that period, down from 44 in the previous week.

One of the deaths announced this week was to a person in their 20s and another was in their 30s. The remainder of the deaths were of people 80-plus.

The report cautions that this week’s reported deaths did not necessarily occur in this past week, and that they may have occurred in previous weeks but were reported this week.

Hospitalizations are down from 353 on March 2 to 339 on March 9. Of those, 24 are in ICU compared to 30 last week.

New cases in the week between Feb. 27 and March 5 were in Regina (231), Saskatoon (207), South (191), North (176) and Far North (26). Seventy-three cases have pending residence information.

As we approach the two year anniversary of the province’s first Covid case, the report notes there has been 1,151 deaths in that time – five of which were to people under age 19.
