The federal and provincial governments have reached a land entitlement settlement with Ahtahkakoop First Nation, about 72 kilometers northwest of Prince Albert near Shell Lake.
Treaty six entitled the members to 128 acres per person, but the first nation claimed a shortfall of 41 hundred acres.
Under the settlement, the Ahtahkakoop first nation will receive compensation of 43 million dollars, with almost 31 million from Ottawa and 12.6 million from Saskatchewan.
The first nation has the option to add up to almost 41 thousand acres to reserve lands.
The federal and provincial governments will also set aside 6.7 million dollars as compensation to rural municipalities and school divisions once taxable land is set apart as reserve.
