After a severe spring weather event compromised a large swath of the power grid in south western Saskatchewan – SaskPower has been able to reconnect the majority of customers.
Close to 4000 customers were left without power in multiple communities Wednesday thru to Thursday of this week. The power company was faced with the task of reconnecting homes, farms and businesses after sever winds, heavy wet snow and rain caused hundreds of poles and miles of power lines damage.
With 19 crews and the aid of drones this evening SaskPower announced that the majority of customers had their power restored.
All customers in the town of Maple Creek have had their power restored – along with the line to the crucial water treatment plant.
Crews are currently working on returning power to the communities of Golden Prairie and Piapot. While the majority of the work is complete – the remainder of the repairs will be complete tomorrow.
Crews are also making progress on repairing the lines running to Nekaneet – with work being completed tomorrow.
The area south of Maple Creek – including Cypress Hills is expected to be restored by 10 P.M. Saturday.
At this point in the repair – close to 1,122 customers will remain with power overnight.
